Course description

In period 3 we start again the discussion groups for gifted students and for students who are investigating whether they are gifted and/or highly sensitive, facilitated by Anneke Aikema, student psychologist.

There will be 4 meetings on Wednesdays, starting 22 January 2025.
(On 29 January and 5 February, there will be no groups because of self-study week and exams.)

The idea behind the groups is to exchange experiences and learn from each other.

Good to know, there are two groups

GIFTEDNESS & STUDY - Wednesdays 13.00 - 14:00h

  • Executive functions
Executive functions are the skills that help you focus, plan, meet deadlines, and deal with stress. We are going to look into what your strong and not so strong executive functions are. And how to strengthen the latter.

  • Researching giftedness
You may be wondering what it means to you to be gifted. Or you are not yet so convinced that you are gifted. In these meetings we will investigate what being gifted actually is and especially what you can do with it. The list of possible challenges and the Delphi model in the appendices can serve as a start for the conversation.

  • High sensitivity
One of the possible aspects of giftedness is high sensitivity. You could describe this as follows: the ability to perceive a lot and in detail, to connect with perception, to experience and process this profoundly, with intense emotions as a result (Annek Tol, 2014). Your senses are more sensitive to stimuli, which can lead to overstimulation. In this group we will discuss what high sensitivity means to you and how you can deal with it.

WORKING ON YOUR THESIS - Wednesdays 14.00-15:00h

  • The focus of this group is mainly supporting and stimulating each other while working on your thesis.

If you have other ideas to discuss in the groups, please e-mail to Anneke.Aikema@wur.nl   In the past period, for example we also discussed self compassion and social rejection. Anneke is looking forward to your suggestions.

Location: the meetings will take place in Groot Nergena (Groot Nergena – Building 111; Dr. W. Dreeslaan 1, 6721 ND BENNEKOM  Plan your route ) This is a 5 to 10 minutes bike ride from the campus.
